remove dependency on unmaintained jquery.cookie

Testing done:

  • When checking the "I want to use the beta version" checkbox, the cookie is set to "edge"
  • When unchecking the checkbox, the cookie is set to "master"

Testing missing:

  • Check if learning mode is still enforced
